Due to internal reconfiguration and additional funding we have an exciting opportunity at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust to appoint a Band 7 Speech & Language Therapists to join our dynamic Speech & Language Therapy team.
The successful candidate will join a friendly and well-established SLT department, with excellent links with the wider stroke MDT. Clinical and professional development is strongly encouraged, and you will benefit from a robust supervision structure and peer support. The team benefits from SLT led inpatient FEES and an inpatient/outpatient videofluoroscopy service, and training in these areas can be facilitated.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The successful candidate will jointly lead the Stroke Speech and Language Therapy team alongside another highly specialist colleague. The team consists of therapy support workers and band 5 and 6 SLTs covering acute stroke inpatients, and enhanced supported discharge (ESD) services.
This post will be largely based at Heartlands Hospital, and you will work closely with the stroke team lead based at Good Hope hospital. You will work closely with the clinical team lead for SLT and the wider team to provide an excellent level of care.
The successful candidate will be able to work as a highly specialist, autonomous practitioner with patients experiencing swallowing and communication difficulties following a stroke. Alongside this you will provide direct line management to the team. Evidence of strong organisational, communication and leadership skills are essential to compliment your advanced speech and language therapy knowledge and skills. You should be passionate about providing effective patient centered care, as well highly enthusiastic about the ongoing development of stroke services.
