Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a sister /charge nurse (Band 6) to join our friendly team here at the Centre For Rare Diseases.

This position is based at the QEHB.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced individual to join our team.

The post holder will act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a consistent high standard of nursing practice. He / she will deputise for the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse and will support the leadership and management of the department with particular emphasis on quality and clinical standards. He / she will have continuing clinical responsibility for managing the wards/departments in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse which will include: understanding finances, the deployment, delegation and supervision of all grades of staff and be visible and approachable for patients, staff and visitors.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will work independently/autonomously and at times without direct supervision, and will be accountable for their own professional actions.

The post holder must use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes and promote health and best practice. They must make person centred, evidence based judgements in partnership with others involved in the care process to ensure high quality care.

The post holder will deputise for the Senior Research Sister / Charge Nurse

Essential Criteria for applying for this post:

*Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register

*Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD

*Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff

*Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration

*Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department

*Ability to work under pressure across competing demands

*Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice

*Excellent Communication skills /written / verbal / IT

Registered level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC register/E 

Experience

Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting /Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff (E)

Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD (E)
