Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an apprenticeship scheme within our Medical Engineering Department where the candidate will study and gain qualification for a BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science. The course will consist of distance learning where protected times will be provided on a weekly basis and also attendance at academic training sessions provided by the educational institute. 

Main duties, tasks & skills required

To assist under strict supervision the basic repair, servicing, scheduled maintenance, calibration, functional and safety testing of medical equipment used throughout the UHB NHS Trust and our external sites.

Working Pattern:Monday -- Friday 08:00am -- 16:00pm

Duration:2 years fixed term

Start Date:September 2022

Qualifications:Level 2 in Mathematics, English and Double Science or equivalent qualifications

Qualifications

Essential

*Level 2 in Mathematics, English and Double science or equivalent qualifications 

Desirable

*Demonstrate knowledge of Healthcare Science and its importance in patient care

Experience

Essential

*Be able to manage own workload under supervision and through direction and ensure this meets the required standards

*Have information technology skills to operate word processing, and e-communication packages commonly found in the workplace and to use spreadsheets to record and analyse complex data.

Desirable

*Understand the concept of quality in both healthcare and scientific settings and practical approaches to assuring quality in applied science.

*Some knowledge of Medical Engineering as profession with an understanding of the roles of Practitioners.

*Be able to work within safe systems of work and report any deficiencies in those systems.

*Able to work with Standard Operating Procedures and contribute to their review and implementation.

*Able to work individually and as part of an extended team.

*Have well developed manual dexterity and coordination.

*Advanced verbal communication skills to convey complex information to a variety of listeners. Able to observe when communication has failed and to adopt different communication strategies under those circumstances.

*Ability to work and communicate with Clinical and Nursing staff.
