Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) has a history of developing their Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) with 140 ACPs currently working within Trust. The Haematology and Oncology department is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic ACP to join our existing team, providing excellent clinical care to our patients.

UHB consists of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Birmingham Chest Clinic. As the lead regional centre for Cancer care and Bone Marrow Transplants, the Haematology service offers specialised services including Level 3 and 4 Stem Cell Transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adults (TYA) cancer care, apheresis, Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre, specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (siHMDS) and a nationally recognised academic programme. The Oncology service delivers specialist Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatment and covers an extensive range of tumour sites. Outpatient treatment is delivered via bespoke Day Units, whilst inpatient treatment is delivered via dedicated inpatient wards and a specialist Young Persons Unit. Emergency for both services are managed by the Acute Oncology Service (AOS).

Haematology and Oncology services are supported by clinicians, junior doctors, CNSs, AOS, ACPs and specialist nurses. Inpatient wards and the Young Persons Unit for TYA care are based at QEH and all sites have bespoke Day Units, procedure areas and clinics.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will support the development of high quality clinical practice within Oncology and Haematology. Working autonomously, they will be expected to provide effective care and manage a caseload of patients. Given the sensitive nature of the specialities, the department are seeking a candidate who can communicate complex information to patients and their relatives/carers. The post holder should be proficient in bone marrow aspirates and biopsy, PICC line insertions, skin biopsies, and independently reviewing patients with haematological and oncological abnormalities.

Working alongside the existing ACPs within the speciality, the post holder will demonstrate expert knowledge and standards of clinical practice. Ideally, the post holder would have competed their Non-Medical Prescribing training.

Teamwork is essential within our specialties. The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with a range of healthcare professionals, whilst being supported by a dedicated administrative team. They should be flexible to the service needs and delivery, being able to work across sites.

Consideration will be given to partially trained ACPs who have commenced their MSc with HEE funding.

Qualifications

Essential

Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body ( NMC / HCPC / GPC)

Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience

MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice/ Level 7 equivalent portfolio or minimum of 120 CATs and working towards full MSc (must cover all 4 Pillars of advanced clinical practice )-- Portfolio must include evidence of health assessment module at Level 7

Non -- Medical Prescribing Course -- where applicable to registration

Advanced Life Support Qualification

Recognised Teaching & Assessing/ Mentoring Qualification / Course

Experience

Essential

Extensive post registration experience at a senior level (Band 7 or above) in specialty area including significant and relevant senior clinical and leadership experience

Evidence / experience of working in an MDT within a health care provider service

Evidence of on-going CPD

Evidence of teaching in a variety of environments

A sound knowledge of professional priorities and issues relating to NHS care provision

A knowledgeable clinician with ability to ensure clinical governance is embedded in practice

Sound understanding of evidence based practice and its application
