Job summary

We wish to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic band 5 research nurse to assist in the co-ordination and delivery of clinical trials within the 24/7 clinical research delivery team for "unplanned admissions" (including ED/ Acute Trauma/ Burns/Critical Care and Stroke).

The 24/7 clinical research service was first established in 2013, the first of its kind in the UK, as part of the NIHR Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (trauma research); trauma does not occur just during working hours. Over the last 10 years the service has grown including additional specialties, most recently stroke. Now is an exciting time to join the team as we refresh our strategy/direction for the next 5-10 years.

The research nurse will be part of a team of a dynamic nursing, allied health professional and administration team running a 24/7 service. The post-holder will work with consultants and clinical trial staff in order to recruit to and deliver on a wide range of studies.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Qualifications: - Registered Level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC Register

Experience: - Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting. Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others

Knowledge: - Displays genuine interest in the post applied for and can articulate this when questioned

Communication Skills: - Demonstrate achievement of numeracy (including drug administration calculations) and literacy skills. Ability to read / write and speak , receive and understand instructions in English

Clinical Skills:- Competent in a range of clinical skills willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required

Information Management :- Good IT skills ability to record information electronically

Flexibility: - Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights / weekends unsocial hours where required

*Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

Experience

*Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting

*Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence

*Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others

*Willingness to become a Mentor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship

*Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct

*Understanding of preceptorship and work based learning and assimilation of skills and knowledge

*Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context

*Understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity

*Awareness of health and safety issues
