Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and adaptable individual to join and support our HIV CNS team. The post will be based primarily at Heartlands Hospital with a rotation across to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on occasions for integrated experience and support.

In conjunction with the Senior Nurse/Team managers, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of high quality care to patients attending the HIV Services at University Hospital Birmingham. They will be an experienced specialist nurse with expert knowledge and skills within the field of HIV, Infectious diseases, Sexual Health Practice or Sexual Health Advising.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

They will have direct clinical involvement and be responsible for the management of a caseload of clients with complex needs and be the lead specialist in this field. The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner dealing with patients presenting with a complex conditions e.g. HIV/Syphilis. This will include providing highly specialist care, treatment, advice, information, education and counselling, to patients / carers living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, in accordance with the British HIV Association [BHIVA] / British Association of Sexual Health and HIV [BASHH] .

The successful candidate will contribute and work within a large, dedicated and supportive multi-disciplinary team consisting of Consultants, Health Advisers, Pharmacists and Dieticians caring for patients with HIV/AIDS

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration

Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6

Experience

Essential

Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice

Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence

Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality

Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting

Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment

Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC
