Job summary

Due to future service expansion we are looking for motivated individuals to take their next career step as a Resuscitation Officer. These posts and part of a large scale expansion to the current clinical, operational and educational team.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to play a key role in a team responsible for delivery of high quality resuscitation services across University Hospitals Birmingham 4 hospital sites.

The post holder will be part of the cardiac arrest / medical emergency team, teach on resuscitation courses and participate with improvement projects and audits which will contribute to improved patient care and outcomes.

You will be a qualified nurse, paramedic or ODP with substantial post registration experience of which 18 months will have been in an acute / critical care area. You must be a Resuscitation Council (UK) Advanced Life Support provider or if you do not hold ALS provider status; options will be discussed based on your individual circumstances. It is desirable to hold ALS and/or EPALS Instructor status and hold a recognised teaching qualification but not essential. You must be able to fulfil the cross site travel requirements of the post. You should have good interpersonal, organisational and managerial skills and be computer literate.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

You will assist in the planning, administration and delivery of training of all aspects of resuscitation including basic and advanced life support to appropriate groups across the organisation, for example Advanced Life Support (ALS), Immediate Life Support (ILS); Paediatric Immediate Life Support (pILS) and European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS) courses. This will include teaching clinical staff and students, qualified and unqualified nurses, paramedic staff, other hospital personnel and various members of the community.

The post holder will assist, under the supervision of the Senior Resuscitation Officers, in providing professional advice and support in relation to resuscitation training, techniques and equipment. The duties of the post include involvement in the review and audit of hospital resuscitation procedures.

You will be expected to maintain your clinical competence by attending medical emergencies and cardiac arrests and utilise these events as teaching opportunities. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and a drive to maintain and improve standards of clinical care through education, audit and research.

Working hours: 37.5hrs per week over a 4 day week this will consist of 2 short days and 2 long days (07:30 -- 19:30hrs).

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

* NMC/HCPC registered practitioner

* Maintained relevant CPD activity of essential hours in the past 3 years

* Additional professional development activities

* RC (UK) ALS provider or willingness to complete (options to complete dependant on individual circumstances).

Desirable

* EPALS/PILS provider

* BSc in Nursing or other health related field or prior evidence of working towards this level

* Post graduate Level qualification in health-related subject or willingness to work toward.

Experience

Essential

* 3 years acute experience.

* Sound Knowledge within the field of resuscitation.

Desirable

* Post Registration qualification in a relevant field

* Recognised post registration teaching qualification at post graduate level

* Experience of leading a small team

* Ability to critically analyse research data and apply to current practice

* Experience of participating in audit and research programmes and processes

* Previous experience as a resuscitation officer within an acute healthcare setting

* Previous clinical exposure to the resuscitation of children.
