The Health Informatics Department at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) has an exciting opportunity to join the department as a Health Informatics Manager leading and supporting a number of key areas across the Trust..

In your role as a Data Analyst you'll get to:

The principal purpose of this role is to work proactively with the operational leads across the trust and consider a wide range of operational, strategic and policy issues including service redesign and promoting the effective use of information analysis to allow the Trust to know and understand its own performance

This post holder will encourage further engagement with operational staff across the Trust at all levels to introduce new ways of analysing and presenting data.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

To support in the design, development and maintenance of informatics systems. This will involve working with complex processes involving large data sets and utilising Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server, Analysis Services and Integration Services.

*Handling of large complex data sets and dimensional data models in order to support in the design and delivery multi-audience reports.

*Extraction, processing and validation of data from various data sources.

*To maintain core data tables and manipulate data to populate data processing and regular reporting systems to ensure they are accurate and up-to-date.

*Maintaining accurate and accessible tailored technical documentation and scripts.

*Providing technical guidance and support as appropriate to wider members of the team.

*Proactively seeking to improve the technical capability and efficiency of informatics solutions to minimise downtime.

*Planning and prioritisation of own workload to ensure that agreed deadlines are met.

*Maintaining a high level of accuracy within work and ensuring work is auditable.

*Ensuring Department guidelines are followed and a culture of best practice is promoted regarding analysis and the clear presentation of reports.

*Ensuring that any reporting, whether of a complex or simple nature, runs efficiently and is automated where possible.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

*Minimum grade C in GCSE English and Maths.

*Degree level or equivalent knowledge and skills in a numerate discipline.

*MSc in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through any combination of alternative study, employment, or voluntary work.

*Evidence of further professional development

Experience

Essential

*Significant previous experience working in an analytical/data science role.

*Significant experience of Microsoft BI tools including SQL Server (T-SQL) and Analysis Services.

*Significant experience of web related technologies and the development of web based reports.

*Significant experience of Data Management Principles, Database Design and Dimensional Data Modelling. Experience of manipulating highly complex information and presenting it in a simplified manner.

*Experience of producing automated reports.

*Experience in querying / designing Dimensional Modelled Databases.

*Experience of handling, analysing and manipulating large, complex datasets.

*Experience generating reports using Business Intelligence Software.

*Experience of scripting languages.

*Experience in providing user support.
