UHB are seeking a Band 7, Paediatric Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the day case surgery/procedures service and outpatient departments. Our designated Day Surgery/Procedures unit is at Heartlands Hospital and the Children's outpatient service runs at Good Hope, Heartlands and Solihull hospitals

Within University Hospitals Birmingham we have a large Paediatric service ran by a dynamic, talented team of professionals; this includes over 120 specialised paediatric nurses who deliver high quality, compassionate care to the local community and beyond. We offer specialist services for our acute and long term patients, which include Respiratory, Immunology, Diabetes, Allergy, Dermatology, HIV, Musculoskeletal, Trauma & Orthopaedics, General Surgery, ENT, Outreach services and we are keen to employ another experienced nurse who is enthusiastic about clinical care and leading a team.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

We are looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Paediatric nurse, who is proactive and has proven clinical and people management skills.

You will need to be an organised, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and inspirational leadership skills, alongside having the passion and ability to deliver high quality care to a diverse population. You will act as a role model for the nursing team across the Paediatric services, promoting a positive attitude and motivating staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally.

You will join an established senior nursing team who will support you to develop professionally. You will work alongside them to manage children's services on a day to day basis, utilising your paediatric expertise, critical thinking skills and ensuring performance and standards are monitored.

Operational management duties include maintaining a safe, clean environment, monitoring and improving ward and departmental performance, budget control, clinical governance and supporting staff wellbeing, training and providing pastoral care. The post holder is professionally accountable for the standards of clinical care delivered within their ward environment, they will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and participate in teaching to establish, monitor and continually improve the quality of the patient experience.

Qualifications

Essential

*Registered Paediatric Nurse on NMC register

*ITU/HDU qualification or equivalent

*PILS/APLS/EPALS certificate

Experience

Essential

*Professional Portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration

*Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a complex health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Manager Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/ students .

*Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment

*Experience of being a mentor/assessor or coach

*Demonstrable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting.

*Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non-pay resources associated with the clinical service.

*Evidence of effective multi-professional working.

*Demonstration of a significant contribution to innovative practice or change management

*Experience in interviewing and selection of staff

*Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice

*Demonstrate an ability, experience, passion in the following areas.
