Job summary

The National Institute for Health and Care Research Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is seeking a motivated person. They will fill the role of Research Inclusion Manager.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual. Someone who is passionate about promoting equity, equality, diversity, and inclusion (EEDI) in research.

You will lead projects that fit with our 5-year strategy for equity, equality, diversity, and inclusion. You will help develop and drive initiatives. You will be responsible for tracking and reporting progress against this strategy.

EEDI is key to our BRC. They are also crucial in other infrastructures. You will work together with other Research Infrastructures, such as NIHR/Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and the NIHR University Hospitals Birmingham HealthTech Research Centre (HRC).

You will get to design innovative solutions to complex EEDI issues. You will provide expert guidance to many stakeholders. You will help build a shared and inclusive research culture for our organisation.

Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) is also a vital part of our research. The post holder will work alongside our PPIE team. They will deliver expert knowledge on training and developing EEDI tools.

This post is for a fixed term of 2 years at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

*Coordinate efforts to create and put in place a shared research culture. It should be inclusive. This is across the BRC, CRF and HRC.

*To foster increased participation across our public research participants, collaborators and workforce.

*You will track, manage, and deliver work in our EDI Strategy. You will also provide expert advice and lead with experience.

*You will work with our PPIE Theme Leads. Your goal is to add and improve EDI in our PPIE activity. This will help build relationships and understanding of public participation and engagement. You will do this across our communities and neighbourhoods.

*You will work with the BRC EDI Theme Leads. You will provide expert advice and guidance. You will also support the development and implementation of the programme's EDI Strategy.

*You will work with operational and corporate managers across the program. Your goal is to increase equity and diversity insight in hiring and development. You will diagnose issues and agree on priorities for action.

*Provide managers and staff with the knowledge and training. This will help them to promote and embed equity and Human Rights principles.

*You will give staff the skills to challenge discrimination. You will do this through training, development, written guidance, and support.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

*Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline or an equivalent professional qualification. Or equivalent relevant experience to Masters level which demonstrates how specialist knowledge in EDI and or human rights interpretation, development, and implementation has been gained and applied.

*A formal qualification in project management. Or equivalent relevant experience managing projects in a complex organisation which has multiple organisational structures and stakeholders.

Desirable

*Evidence of continuing professional development in equality diversity and inclusion, health inequalities or public health.

Experience

Essential

*Significant experience managing and delivering EDI projects.

*Experience of leading equality, diversity, and inclusion or health inequalities related projects in a complex organisation which has multiple organisational structures and stakeholders.

*Experience of developing plans tactically and creatively, and gain agreement to implement through service delivery.

*Experience of presenting concepts and ideas clearly engaging the audience.

*Significant experience in the preparation of EDI service change which impact the organisations.

*Evidence of successful experience of implementing equality and human rights change programme within a complex structure.

*Experience of managing a range of projects which require the application of in-depth specialist knowledge of equality diversity and inclusion.

*Experience of developing and delivering education and development initiatives to a range of stakeholders.

*Knowledge of EDI in a local, regional and global health context.

*Thorough understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty.

Desirable

*Knowledge of the health inequalities legislation and initiatives such as Core20Plus5.

*Experience of leading projects which collect and use data to inform intelligent insights and decision-making.

*Experience and or knowledge of current public and political social and racial justice issues.

*Knowledge of other EDI linked strategies.

*Established networks with local community and public groups.

*An ability to establish and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

*An ability to organise own workload, dealing with conflicting priorities and multiple deadlines. Ability to implement practical solutions to make a difference at behavioural and system level.

*Ability to interpret equality and human rights legislation and national policy and data.

*A commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion by creating equitable environments.

*An understanding of the principles of cultural intelligence, cultural humility and compassionate leadership.

*Flexible working arrangements to meet reasonable demands and deadlines of the post.

*Willingness to travel across the wide footprint of the programme, to attend meetings and events relevant to the role. In rare occasions, with notice, may include overnight stays.
