Band 6 Dietitian- Head, Neck and Haematology
Job summary
Due to additional funding we are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and dynamic Dietitian with experience in nutrition support to provide a dietetic service to the Head and Neck and Haematology patients at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (University Hospitals Birmingham) which is the regional head and neck and Haematology centre in the West Midlands. This is an inpatient and outpatient based service which deals with all aspects of head and neck and haematological cancer treatment including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, late effects and palliation. Experience with all forms of nutrition support and home enteral feeding is desirable.
This post is split 0.4 wte haematology which is permanent and 0.6 wte head and neck which is temporary for 6 months which is likely to be extended and the potential of becoming permanent. This is an exciting opportunity to help further develop the growing head and neck service.
We are looking for a Dietitian who works well in a MDT and strives for a high level of excellence and will be involved in audits and research to improve patient care. They will also work as an integral member of the hospital's well respected dietetic team. This post will deliver high quality nutritional care alongside our proactive and enthusiastic dietetic team made up of 40 dietitians and assistants.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
- Provide a professional nutrition and dietetic service to inpatient & outpatients
- Ensure safe home enteral feed discharges
- Be a key member of the multidisciplinary team by attending board rounds and meetings and link with other services as required
- Line manage other Dietitians/Dietetic Assistants
-Work closely with the dietetic leads/specialist Dietitians at UHB to continue to develop the head and neck and haematology services
- Take part in audit and service improvement projects
- Contribute to the training of student Dietitians on clinical placement
- Based at QEHB (Employees will be expected to demonstrate a flexible working approach and move across sites as required to deliver care based on organisational and service need).

Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
Registration with HCPC
Experience

Post-graduate experience relevant to post
Teaching skills including supervisory skills for student training
Relevant post registration experience at entry to post
All types of nutritional support
Evidence of multi-disciplinary team work
In depth knowledge of nutritional assessment / nutritional screening tools
Up to date with clinical developments, with evidence of contributions to clinical meetings / journal clubs
