Band 7 Specialist Respiratory Dietitian-Development Opportunity

Job summary

Due to new funding, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dietitian to work within the Specialist Respiratory MDT at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful candidate will provide specialist dietetic advice to patients with pre-existing chronic respiratory conditions such as severe COPD or bronchiectasis, patients in acute respiratory failure due to sarcopenic obesity or pneumonia and patients transferred from critical care with neuromuscular complications. Dietetic input is vital for patients to continue their rehabilitation programme to help support exercise tolerance and functional recovery.

This is a training post for a band 6 to transition to a band 7 by completing a training package with relevant competencies. Band 7 applicants will also be considered. Due to the nature of the position there will be much scope to complete research, audit and showcase dietetics. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is a tertiary centre and is one of the largest single-site hospitals in the UK and is part of one of the largest trusts in England. Main duties, tasks & skills required

The successful candidate will be part of the larger dietetic team at the QE Hospital of over 50 dietitians covering various specialities. You will work closely with therapy colleagues, to develop the respiratory services and work closely with the dietetic leads at UHB to continue to develop the dietetic service.

The successful individual will take a lead role in the assessment and treatment of a variety of complex patients so the applicant must have significant dietetic experience within a range of specialities including enteral feeding, oral nutritional support and rehabilitation.

The post is permanent and full time (37.5 hours) although applications are welcomed for any part time or job share opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential

- Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ,AS and A levels

- Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent

- Registration with HCPC

Experience

Essential

Post-graduate experience relevant to post

Teaching skills including supervisory skills for student training

Relevant post registration experience at entry to post

All types of nutritional support

Evidence of multi-disciplinary team work

In depth knowledge of nutritional assessment/nutritional screening tools

Up to date with clinical developments, with evidence of contributions to clinical meetings/journal clubs
