Job summary

The Imaging and Medical Physics Group at the Queen Elizabeth

Hospital, through its Radiotherapy Physics Service, provides scientific and technical

support to all aspects of the Radiotherapy Department. The Service also provides

necessary liaisons with equipment providers, equipment users and with other

Divisions within the Trust involved in delivery of the Radiotherapy Service. The

Treatment Planning section provides Treatment Planning, Dosimetry, Mould Room

and Brachytherapy services.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Brief job statement:

*To be a member of a team of Clinical Technologists, providing both Mould

Room and Treatment Planning services, working on a rotational basis

between the two areas.

*Liaises with other health care professionals in providing an efficient

Radiotherapy Service and participates in future development of cancer

services.

*Participates in aspects of linear accelerator quality assurance and patient

specific QA for IMRT plans.

*Participates in Research and Development.

*Be part of an on-call rota covering emergency patients at weekends

Qualifications

Essential

*Relevant BSc or equivalent.

*Registration on the Register of Clinical Technologists or Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC)

Experience

Essential

*Subsequent Field Work / Training Courses / Updating and experience in Radiotherapy Planning Dosimetry.

*Understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines, e.g. IRR, IR(ME)R, ISO 9001:2000, Data Protection Act, Caldicott and other relevant BSI and ISO standards, professional and regulatory body reports and guidelines.

*Able to keep abreast of developing Treatment Planning Dosimetry and Mould Room Technology techniques and apply relevant advances.

*Ability to contribute, sometimes in a multidisciplinary approach, in the development, implementation and use of new equipment and techniques and Clinical Trials.

*Undertakes R&D projects as part of regular activity

*Competency and fluency with Trust standard software packages (e.g. Word, Excel, e-mail etc.) and with specialist Radiotherapy systems (e.g. Mosaiq -- Radiotherapy data/information system). Regular requirement to produce reports, drawings and statistics

*Full competency and expertise in the use of various Radiotherapy Planning software tools for 3D and IMRT work.

*Competency in the use of the Q-Pulse ISO management system to update Oncology Quality Management System procedures, protocols and other documentation.
