Job summary

We are recruiting Emergency Care Technicians to join our Emergency Department at Good Hope Hospital. Our Emergency Department is a fast paced and dynamic department. We are looking for kind, highly motivated individuals with a passion to provide excellent patient centred care to those admitted following an emergency. This post provides the opportunity to learn and develop additional clinical skills to work in the fast paced areas such as triage and ambulance assessment. The individual will need to be motivated and act as a role model delivering high standards of care, supporting new initiatives and continuously striving to achieve an outstanding Emergency department. If you are dynamic, proactive, compassionate and caring with excellent clinical skills and interested in the challenge of embarking on a career working as part of a large team in a fast pace environment, we would love to hear from you. Applicants should, as a minimum, have current experience as a healthcare assistant within an acute hospital setting. Phlebotomy is a required skill as this makes up an important part of the role. Main duties, tasks & skills required

*To work in all areas within or associated with emergency care as directed by the nurse co-ordinator for ED.

*Understand own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to role.

*Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family, visitors and carers.

*Through practice achieve and maintain proficiency in a range of clinical skills.

*Following appropriate training and supervised practice, undertake identified competency based practices which are required for the department, after such tasks have been delegated to them by a registered health care professional.

*Identify learning and development needs and produce a personal development plans in conjunction with your line manager / supervisor.

*Achieve and maintain competence in mandatory and statutory training associated with the role.

*Complete documentation of care in line with the Trust Standards for Documentation.

*The post-holder must act in such a way as to promote a positive image of UHB Foundation Trust at all times.

*Act first and foremost to care for and safeguard the public, practice in a safe, compassionate and patient centred manner

Evidence of completion of a Health Related Education and Development programme/ Care Certificate 

Experience

Essential

Experience of recent working in an acute hospital / provider led healthcare environment as an Health Care Support Worker

Evidence of working in a multidisciplinary and cross agency work environment

Experience of carrying out assigned duties after training and using initiative

Competent in a range of clinical skills and practices relevant to the scope of practice required

Understanding of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity

Awareness of Health and Safety issues

Has knowledge in relation to the parameters and scope of practice in which the post holder should work and when to seek advice and support of others

Willingness to take on new skills and develop scope of practice

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
