Band 5 Clinical Trials Senior Pharmacy Technician

Come join our friendly pharmacy trials team here at University Hospitals Birmingham, covering Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull (HGS) sites

The team provide pharmacy support for the expanding Research and Development work of the trust, we have a large portfolio of studies requiring the input of the pharmacy department. This year we will also see the expansion to adding advanced therapy trials to the HGS portfolio

You will be involved in the set up and management of upcoming studies. You will assist in the maintenance of trial drugs, dispensing, labelling, drug accounting and investigating any discrepancies and temperature monitoring of any areas storing clinical trial medication

There is no requirement to have experience working within clinical trials as full training will be provided but you must have good organisational and communication skills and be able to show you are highly self-motivated and flexible

A requirement to participate in evening, weekends and bank holidays working on a rotational basis will be necessary

You will have

-Nationally recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Candidates who will be completing their qualification and registration soon will also be considered

-Accredited accuracy checking qualification or willing to work towards this qualification

-Flexible approach with good time management skills

Main duties, tasks & skills required

*Attend and contribute to clinical trial feasibility and risk assessment.

*Attend and contribute to Pharmacy initiation meetings as requested, for new drug trials set up in the Trust.

*Assist with the setup of Pharmacy study files for new drug trials starting within the Trust.

*Receive, store, dispense, record and carry out return accountability for each individual trial following procedures within the Pharmacy study file.

*Ensure documentation for each trial is completed correctly, amendments implemented and documentation is filed appropriately in a timely manner to ensure each trial file is well maintained.

*Liaise with research staff within the Trust, including medical, nursing, and R and D staff to ensure drug trials are run safely and efficiently.

*Support the Pharmacists with training and development.

*Create and update trial SOPs.

*Meet with Clinical Research Associates of company sponsored studies for monitoring visits and follow up identified actions.

*Temperature monitoring and reporting of temperature excursions in a timely manner.

*Incident review and CAPA implementation.

*Audit of trials and trials services.

*Support for MHRA inspection.

*Keep the clinical trials database up to date.

*Arrange regular invoicing for trials to Sponsors as requested using EDGE

*Undertake specialised training and development in order to meet the skill needs of the job.

Qualifications

Essential

*NVQ Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmacy Service Skills and Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent as defined by the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain

*Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation, West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.

Registered as a Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Desirable


*Accredited Checking Technician West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.

Experience

Essential


*Experience of working in a hospital setting

*Practical experience of aseptic work

*Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues

*Experience of working within a pharmacy team

*Demonstrates an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.

*Demonstrates the ability to be able to handle safely and competently

Desirable

*Providing specialist technical advice to others i.e. manufacturing methods

*Contribution to technical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants

*Training experience
