The new year saw University Hospitals Birmingham recognise and acknowledge the incredible work our AHP's do. Four Board level Hospital Directors for AHP's were appointed to each our hospitals.

The Therapy Lead for Planned care, Alison Jackson is now inviting applications for Clinical Musculoskeletal Specialists posts within Physiotherapy; with a full time post based at Solihull Hospital and a full time post based at Good Hope Hospital. We welcome applicants with a vast experience in treating acute and chronic conditions ideally within an acute setting who will add value to and support the development our teams and drive our strategy. Both teams are friendly and welcoming with a wealth of expertise across all levels.

Our service covers T&O, spinal, rheumatology and pain clinics. Additionally, we receive tertiary referrals from several specialist clinics and work across the MDT. With the opening of the Surgical Hub at Solihull this July, these posts are a fantastic opportunity to support the care of these patients across the pathway at two of our HGS sites and to shape the future of the service across Birmingham and Solihull.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

To deliver advanced Physiotherapy assessment, advice and treatment of patients and act as a source of expertise to fellow clinicians, Trust managers, Healthcare Professionals and other services internal and external to the Trust as required.

To lead in the advanced therapeutic assessment, management and treatment of MSK patients, possibly with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions including pain and rheumatology to develop and deliver an individualised specialist treatment programme.

To work under the supervision of Consultants in clinic settings as/if required and to assist in the 18 week targets. Site of working will be flexible based on the service need (A main site will be identified).

To lead in the training and service development of clinical practice. To undertake clinical audits and evaluation of evidence-based practice, initiating/participating in research within specialist area.

To use a high degree of analytical skills and judgment to plan, develop and implement strategic and operational management and delivery of the therapy service, in collaboration with Lead therapist and Managers.

To manage, supervise and appraise staff and students within the specialist area.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

* Good standard of general education including GCSE English and maths grade c or above

* A Levels or equivalent qualification

* Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy

* Registered with HCPC

* Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality

Experience

Essential

* Substantial and relevant post-registration experience, providing a broad range of experience in core areas within a healthcare setting.

* Significant Experience in MSK within various settings of the MSK field e.g. Acute / Specialist clinics for e.g. Pain, Rheumatology

* Highly developed professional clinical skills.

* Experience of effective staff management and leadership

* Interdisciplinary working.

* Team/service development.

* Implementation of change management principles.

* Experience of dealing with people who display inappropriate behaviours e.g. verbal or physical aggression, in sensitive and potentially hostile situations.

* Demonstration of specialist knowledge across a range of Physiotherapy procedures, practices and treatments, routine and nonroutine, requiring expertise within the particular field.

* Appropriate Theoretical and practical experience

* An ability to cope with a range of complex options, find solutions, analyse, compare and decide on an appropriate course of action.

* Understanding of current legislation and application to Physiotherapy.

* Attendance at postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical work.

* Attendance at mandatory training Evidence of in-service training

* CPD portfolio
