The Burns Centre cares for patients who have sustained injuries due to burns and trauma and/or require reconstruction surgery. As the regional Burns Centre for the west midlands we can accommodate for all levels of burns injuries. The area has 15 beds of which seven are high dependency single occupancy rooms. All our nursing team is friendly, knowledgeable, approachable and dynamic and is a valued part of the wider MDT.

In your band 6 role on the burns centre you will act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a consistent high standard of nursing practice. You will deputise for the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse and will support the leadership and management of the department with particular emphasis on quality and clinical standards. You will have continuing clinical responsibility for managing the wards/departments in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse which will include: understanding finances, the deployment, delegation and supervision of all grades of staff and be visible and approachable for patients, staff and visitors.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Your day to day responsibilities will include co-ordinating the ward staffing allocations, delivering direct patient centred specialist care, facilitating patient flow and supporting both manager and junior members of staff. You will be responsible for ensuring that high quality care is delivered both through direct monitoring and through the use of quality tools such as 'Red to Green' and the clinical dashboard.

You will be supporting the Senior Sister with the management of staff such as, sickness management, performance management, incidents, complaints, meetings, and completion of appraisals. You will be a preceptor and mentor to both newly qualified nurses and student nurses and be an integral part of new starters induction.

Previous Burns and plastics experience is essential for the role but we will also offer plenty of training and support. Our Burns Centre at the QE is like a big family and we will do our best to support you in your new journey.

2 x Permanent -- 37.5 hours per week

1 x 12 month Secondment -- 37.5 hours per week

Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff ( E )

Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD (E )

Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration (E )

Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff (E )

Experience of mentoring undergraduate students ( E )

Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department (E ) Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice. (E )
