A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Physiotherapist (Team Leader) Musculoskeletal Outpatients to join our large team.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is part of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and is in close proximity to the City Centre.

This is an opportunity for applicants looking to move into a more senior position, who have considerable experience assessing and treating acute and chronic conditions in an Acute NHS setting. Within the team we have staff working in FCP roles, Major trauma clinics, Fracture clinics, T&O clinics, Spinal clinics, Pain clinics, ED and SEMS. We receive tertiary referrals from a number of specialist clinics and work across the MDT.

We have had recent investment into the service and have opened a new area within the QE site to increase our operational capacity. We are working to improve digital access to patients and looking at new ways of working. It is an exciting time to be joining a team looking forward to the future of health care.

The Physiotherapy service actively supports CPD and personal development for all staff. We have a comprehensive in service training programme and run courses within the department.

We have an experience team of Clinical Specialists supporting Senior staff.

This is a full time post but part time opportunities may be available.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The successful candidate will be expected to manage a complex caseload of patients, with acute and chronic conditions and work within the MDT in pain management clinics, fracture clinics and other Consultant lead clinics as required.

You should have experience of working in an acute NHS Trust and management of acute and chronic conditions in an outpatient setting.

You will be expected to manage students and more junior staff as required and contribute to their development and partake in the delivery of a comprehensive in-service training programme.

You will be expected to contribute to service and department planning and operational delivery. This will include tasks as requested by Clinical Specialist or Senior management as required.

You will be expected to be flexible with working hours to cover late clinics and weekend work.

You should have experience of managing both qualified and non-qualified staff and will be expected to assist in their development.

Evidence of leadership competency or qualification is required.

Qualifications

Essential

Appropriate Physiotherapy or professional

qualification e.g. MCSP/ BSc or MSc.

* Registration with Health Care Professions

Council

* CSP or equivalent professional

registration

* Evidence of commitment to advanced

clinical and non-clinical continued

professional development within own

speciality, e.g. post registration training,

management / Leadership competencies

and evidence of a detailed personal

development portfolio

* Relevant, accredited, postgraduate

education/courses in musculoskeletal

physiotherapy

Experience

Essential

Significant post registration experience of

which considerable experience has been in a

musculoskeletal specialty in an acute NHS

organisation. To include experience of treating

acute and chronic patients.

* Experience of staff management including

supervision and of development and

performance management of staff.

* Significant experience in education and

clinical training of others.

* Some experience of clinical/service evaluation

* Proficient knowledge and skill in the specialist

assessment and treatment of a wide range of

complex acute and chronic clinical

presentations relating to the musculoskeletal

patient.

* Excellent knowledge of anatomy and

physiology.

* Awareness of current evidence in

musculoskeletal physiotherapy and

application to clinical practice, using advanced

clinical reasoning skills.

* Good understanding of IT systems and its

application to clinical practice.
