Kidney disease affects one in 10 of the adult population and is a major long-term condition. Supporting the psychological care of patients with kidney disease is a priority area both for the Birmingham service and for the broader NHS.
Working 37.5 hours a week, you will lead the provision of psychology services within renal services. You will be supported by a multi-disciplinary team working in one of the largest renal services in Europe.
You will have a clinical caseload that will include assessing complex needs and designing and delivering specialist psychological treatments to support their care plans. You'll be a part of an environment where there is a strong emphasis on teamwork and CPD, with continuous access to a range of training opportunities to move your career forward.
You will work with the clinical service leadership and operational managers to support the development of healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with kidney disease such that they are better able to identify and support the psychological health of patients with kidney disease.
The post will provide outstanding opportunities for service development, enhanced service delivery, research, and education.

Qualifications
Essential
Satisfactory completion of a Health and Care
Professions Council/British Psychological
Society accredited postgraduate professional
training course in Clinical, Counselling or
Forensic Psychology.
Registered with the Health and Care
Professions Council as a Practitioner
Psychologist.
Eligibility for entry onto the Register of
Chartered Psychologists.
(Candidates who i) possess a qualification
obtained oversees, that does not fully meet UK
training requirements; ii) are seeking lateral
transfer from another branch of applied
psychology; or iii) hold a research degree in a
clinical subject, must provide evidence that
they have obtained a Statement of Equivalence
in awarded by the BPS Committee for the
Scrutiny of Individual Clinical Qualifications,
further to the satisfactory completion of such
additional training as is required by the CSICQ.)
Experience
Essential
Experience , knowledge, and skills of
working with patients with complex
psychological health and clinical needs
Substantial experience of working as a
qualified clinical psychologist at the Senior
(highly specialist) level.
Extensive post qualification experience of
specialist psychological/relevant specialist
assessment and individual or group based
treatment of clients with complex
difficulties across adult secondary or
tertiary care settings.
Substantial post qualification experience of
working with a variety of client groups of
working age with wide- ranging presenting
Experience of working within a multicultural
framework.
Experience of working therapeutically with 'difficult
to treat' clients with complex mental health and
behavioural needs and/or with medical long-term
conditions
Post qualification experience and/or formal training
in supervision, enabling the post holder to
independently supervise trainees in accordance with
relevant criteria adopted by local training courses.
Highly developed knowledge of the theory and
practice of specialised psychological therapies in
specific 'difficult to treat' groups (e.g. personality
disorder, challenging behaviour, dual diagnoses,
people with additional disabilities etc.).
problems that reflect the full spectrum of
clinical complexity and severity.
Substantial post qualification experience and a
minimum of 50 hours receiving clinical
supervision enabling the post holder to provide
supervision to trainees and others.
Relevant post-qualification experience, and
formal training in supervision, enabling the post
holder to independently supervise clinical
psychology trainees in accordance with
relevant criteria adopted by local University
Clinical Psychology Training Course criteria
Experience of teaching, training and/or
supervision.
Significant professional leadership, especially
professional development, clinical governance
and supervision and appraisal.
Experience of exercising full clinical
responsibility for the psychological care and
treatment of referred clients, and of working
within a multidisciplinary context wherein
carries responsibility for the psychological
aspects of a multidisciplinary care plan.
Experience of representing psychological
services within a multidisciplinary context.
Highly developed theoretical and practical
knowledge of the field of psychological theory,
practice and evidence based treatments
consistent with postgraduate level professional
training and further post qualification study,
training and supervised experience.
