Band 6 Senior Research Coordinator
Job summary
Are you looking for an exciting new role as a senior research co-ordinator? We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Respiratory Research team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The post will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience of clinical research from set up to completion and to develop an understanding of the importance that research makes to the care and treatment of our patients. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of research studies including screening of potential patients, recruiting patients into studies according to agreed protocols, assisting in the informed consent process and management of all study related data.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The function of the senior research co-ordinator is to assist in the provision of a clinical trial service within University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust) Research Teams.
As a Research Worker you will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical trials. This will involve taking patient consent for non-interventional studies, the recruitment of, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data. Where appropriate to carry out or assist with clinical procedures to include taking vital signs, ECG procedures, phlebotomy and the collection and management of tissue or blood samples.
You will work collaboratively with the clinical trials team and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your own caseload of clinical trial patients. The role involves using an in depth knowledge of trial protocols and their application in practice. The senior research co-ordinator will also be responsible for ensuring the trial is run to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards, answering queries and contribute to resolving any technical or administrative barriers to patient recruitment as a key responsibility of the role is to ensure that trials meet their recruitment targets.

Qualifications
Essential
* O' Levels / 'GCSE's specifically English and maths at grade C or above
* 'A Levels'.
* Educated to degree level or diploma level plus relevant experience to degree level.
* A willingness to undertake clinical training required to undertake the role
Experience
Essential
* Significant relevant experience in clinical trial /research data management
* Experience of research in a healthcare setting
* Understanding of current legislation regarding research governance Issues
Desirable
* Previous experience of line managing staff, completing PDRs and a basic understanding of the HR requirements of managing sickness maternity, disciplinary action etc.
* Knowledge of ICH GCP
* Knowledge of National policies, procedures and initiatives or current issues facing the NHS
