Job summary

Are you looking for an exciting new role as a respiratory research nurse? We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Respiratory Research team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The post will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience of clinical research from set up to completion and to develop an understanding of the importance that research makes to the care and treatment of our patients. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of research studies including screening of potential patients, recruiting patients into studies according to agreed protocols, assisting in the informed consent process and management of all the study related data.

The successful candidate will join our friendly, motivated and dynamic team. They will be working on the expanding Respiratory research portfolio of studies and gain a wealth of knowledge and experience surrounding respiratory medicine.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will join an established research team working in respiratory research.

The post holder will provide clinical skills including, venepuncture, blood sample processing, vital signs, ECG recording, lung function testing, administration of medications. They will ensure patients are supported throughout their participation in the trial, ensuring strict protocol adherence, data collection and organisation of relevant tests and procedures.

To fulfil this role we are looking for highly motivated nurses who pride themselves on their excellent planning, attention to detail and flexibility. Previous research experience is desirable but not essential.

The post holder will work on a combination of academic and commercial trials ensuring they run smoothly, efficiently and to target.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC Register

Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

Experience

Essential

Previous/recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting

Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence

Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team/providing supervision to others

Willingness to become a Mentor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship

Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct

Understanding of preceptorship and work based learning and assimilation of skills and knowledge

Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context

Understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity

Awareness of health and safety issues
