Job summary

The Supportive and Palliative Care department at University Hospitals Birmingham is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Secretarial Team Leader to join our team, providing full secretarial support within the speciality.

The Supportive and Palliative Care Department is a busy department, delivering care across Heartlands, Good Hope, Solihull and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals and as such, some cross site working will be required. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Medical Secretary who would like to lead a team, and support clinicians in delivering a joined up service.

The successful candidate will ideally hold the following qualifications; GCSE or equivalent pass in English language, RSA III typing/word processing and the AMSPAR diploma or equivalent. Previous experience working as a Medical Secretary is essential

Main duties, tasks & skills required

This is a new post and the successful candidate will require leadership skills to develop the role and provide support to the team that has not previously existed.

They will be a key member of the secretarial team, taking a lead role in supporting consultants and their clinical teams as well as our nurse-led team with oversight of the speciality's processes. The individual will be providing a professional and high quality PA/Secretarial/administrative service at all times.

The post holder will also line manage the secretaries in the team, supporting them in their own roles and facilitating their development.

*Degree in Business Administration or relevant subject or equivalent experience and training

*Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience

*Experience of working in an Administrative role with a proven track record of problem solving and managing a team of staff

*Experience of managing complex diaries using own judgement when dealing with conflicting appointments and priorities

*High proficiency of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (eg. Word, Excel and Outlook)

*Experience of working in a busy environment working independently and exercising judgment and decision making skills
