We are looking for an enthusiastic, self motivated dietitian with an interest in applying current skill set to renal dietetics. This post would suit a dietitian looking to advance their career within a specialist field whilst expanding general dietetic skills

Your development will be fully supported working alongside our highly experienced team of renal dietitians providing a high quality service to our diverse and busy renal directorate

This post would suit anyone who is looking to broaden their understanding and expand dietetic skills to support the management of biochemistry and long term conditions. If you apply for the Developmental band 5 post full training will be provided to gain the relevant competencies for band 6. Expectation is band 6 would be achieved 6-12 months once in post, dependent on experience

You will join a large supportive dietetic department who work holistically with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues. The department offers training and development opportunities to strengthen clinical and service development skills

Main duties, tasks & skills required

You will provide specialist dietetic care to a varied and challenging caseload requiring excellent time management skills with an ability to be flexible and prioritise workload. The role will include acute ward cover of AKI, CKD and General Medical patients, CKD outpatients (pre-dialysis, peritoneal and haemodialysis) and support to the hypertension MDT service. It will involve education and counselling of renal patients in areas of diabetes, weight management, nutrition support and mineral bone management

Renal dietitians are an integral and valued part of the MDT. Our input is frequently relied upon to make decisions regarding patient care and adjustments of medication, so excellent interpersonal, communication skills and a commitment to teamwork are essential

The post holder will be responsible for training dietetic placement students, supervising band 5 rotational dietitians and education of members of the MDT. There are exciting opportunities for being involved in training courses, quality improvement projects, developing educational materials, audits and research, along with being part of a network of renal dietitians in the specialist BDA group

This post is based at Heartlands Hospital but may involve travel to Solihull Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and 3 satellite dialysis units

*Degree in dietetics or equivalent

*Current State Registration with HCPC

Experience

Demonstrates post registration experience within an acute setting

Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality. This would usually be approximately 12 months

Ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team and dietetic team

Desirable

Demonstration of clinical experience of working with patients within speciality
