Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join the IBD nursing team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a Band 6 Clinical nurse specialist. The IBD Nursing service covers the whole trust and acts as the first point of contact for patients who have Crohn's and Ulcerative colitis. IBD nurses are a key part of the wider IBD team within the trust to provide high quality, timely care. We work very closely with a wide range of roles, including consultants, surgeons, administration and other specialist nursing teams. We run a busy Helpline, run out-patient clinics (face to face, video and telephone), are responsible for monitoring advanced therapies, co-ordinating the administration of advanced therapies. We also support the ward nurses, on the gastro wards as well as others, by formal and ad-hoc teaching. 

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to improve the skills of patient education and support, time/caseload management, working in a clinic area, monitoring/screening, medicines manipulation, both autonomous and collaborative working. As well as increasing knowledge of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and its management, the nurse will be privileged to be involved with patients for long period of time, including supporting them through major life events. Specialist nursing also opens doors for professional personal development in expanded and advanced practice and research for instance. There are many opportunities for clinical support within the trust and nationally with access to a very active national support network of IBD nurses.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

*Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration

*Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6

*Willing to undertake training and education to support the role of Non-medical prescriber.

Experience

Essential

*Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

*Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice

*Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence

*Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality

*Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting

*Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment

*Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC
