Band 3 Senior Health Care Assistant Peritoneal Dialysis Community

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit some Band 3 Health Care Assistants; to join our assisted automated peritoneal dialysis (aAPD) community team. The Band 3 candidates should have previous experience within a health care setting.

The post holders will work as part of a specialist team caring for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Peritoneal dialysis is a treatment for kidney failure that uses the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum) to remove waste and excess water from blood inside the body using special dialysis fluid which is drained into the abdomen via a catheter (tube), excess waste and water pass into the fluid and a few hours later the fluid is drained out.

The post holder will be required to work within multiple hospital sites and outpatient settings including patient's homes and various other community settings. Applicants should possess good I.T skills, excellent communication skills and multi-disciplinary working skills.

The post holder will undertake training to an agreed level of competence which will enable them to undertake aspects of clinical care within defined parameters using set guidelines, procedure and policies. The post holder will support the senior PD nurses with the training and education of junior members of staff and patients under their in-direct supervision.



Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will work as part of a specialist team caring for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. Peritoneal dialysis is a treatment for kidney failure that uses the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum), or belly, to remove waste and excess water from blood inside the body using special dialysis fluid which is drained into the abdomen via a catheter (tube), excess waste and water pass into the fluid and a few hours later the fluid is drained out. The post holder will work in hospital inpatient settings and in community settings visiting patients in their own home or nursing / care home and will work under indirect supervision of registered nurses within the specialist team.

responsibilities-- 1. Work co-operatively as part of the Multi-disciplinary team supporting delivery of Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) Service in the Community setting primarily, but also within the trust. 2. Through practise and appropriate training, achieve and maintain proficiency in a range of clinical skills pertinent to the role and the managed APD service delivery. 3. Understand own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to the role and service 4. Identify learning and development needs and produce a personal development plans in conjunction with your line manager / supervisor. 5. Act in such a way as to promote a positive image of the Trust at all times. 6. Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients, family and carers.

Qualifications

Essential

*Care Certificate or equivalent evidence of training associated with the role of a health care support workers.

*Mathematics and English qualifications at level 2 ( CSE Grade 1 or above , GCSE Grade 4 / C or above , O Level Grade C or above , Functional skills Level 2 )

Experience

Essential

*Experience of working as an health care assistant / support worker in the NHS in an inpatient or community practice setting.

*Experience in carrying out assigned duties after training (E) Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team led by Registered Nurses.

*Experience in undertaking a range of physical observations and clinical skills relevant to the role
