Job summary

This is a great opportunity for someone considering a career in Medical Physics. We are looking for a physics graduate (or equivalent) to assist the Clinical Scientists and Clinical Technologists in our large, busy Radiation Protection Service (RRPPS). The post is for one year and would be ideal work experience to support an application to the Scientist or Practitioner Training Schemes.

RRPPS is part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and provides Medical Physics and Radiation Protection services to the Trust and to several customers in the Midlands and further afield. Customers are in NHS Trusts, private healthcare, education and industry. RRPPS staff includes Clinical Scientists and Clinical Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Medicine, MRI and Non-ionising Radiation. We also have an Approved Dosimetry Service and an Instrument Calibration Service.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post will involve routine testing of imaging equipment; data collection, entry and analysis; and report writing. Additional duties will depend on the needs of the service and the experience of the post holder. The post is based in our purpose-built offices and laboratories in Kings Norton, but there will be some travel to external sites.

A full driving licence and own car are preferable but not essential.

The post is full-time (37.5 hours per week) but some flexibility will be considered.

*Honours degree in Physics or relevant subject. 

Experience

Essential

*The minimum experience required is an Honours BSc degree in Physics or an equivalent relevant subject.

*Good knowledge of general physics.

*Knowledge and fluency with IT packages such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Access etc. for the analysis of complex scientific data.
