Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the liver unit at the QEHB for a medical secretary to join the team in a part time position.
The Liver and Hepatobiliary Unit is the largest specialist Liver Unit in Europe. Liver Unit activity includes management of patients with acute and chronic liver diseases including those who will undergo liver transplantation and HPB cancers. The unit has busy inpatient and outpatient activity. The hepatology team work together with HPB surgical colleagues, providing the largest liver transplant program in the UK. The Liver Unit provides tertiary and quaternary liver services for much of central England with a catchment of approximately 15 million people.
This is a busy role and the successful applicant would be responsible for providing comprehensive medical secretary support to Clinical Nurse Specialists in the surgical division and to support peers and the wider team. Previous experience as a medical secretary is advantageous and although not essential, would be preferred given the responsibility of the postholder. The successful applicant would receive relevant training if needed. The liver unit is a large organisation which requires successful applicants to be versatile and flexible in order to adapt to the needs of a very busy service
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The successful candidate will be responsible for dealing on a 1:1 basis with several Clinical Nurse Specialists and will be responsible for all aspects of their clinical work. They will liaise daily with many members of the Allied Healthcare Professionals . They will be responsible for dealing with all aspects of patient's HPB pathways including acquiring necessary test results from tertiary centres, providing preparatory work for MDT, transcription of clinical letters, facilitating complex patient calls particularly around medication concerns and using initiative to problem solve. As part of a team, covering colleagues would be a requirement during periods of absence and they will also receive training to enhance their skill base to include elements of the hepatobiliary and pancreatic division (Liver Surgery) The successful applicant will need to have excellent organisational skills and an ability to be able to multi task dependent upon the needs of the service. They will be expected to work independently and act as a strong support for the Clinical Nurse Specialists and deal with many elements of a full comprehensive medical secretary role

Good General Education (e.g. GCSE English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4
Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
