Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and motivated individual to join the Capital Planning and Developments Team, as an apprentice, at one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country.

The new role will assist the Sustainability Team delivering the Green Action Plan which supports the NHS Net Zero agenda. It will deliver real change, making the Trust a greener, healthier and more sustainable place for its employees and visitors. The role will grow over time in line with the apprenticeship programme - Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner level 4 Apprenticeship. The successful candidate will also spend some time with the Trust's energy team to learn about energy management and estates decarbonisation projects.

To be considered for this post, it is important that you have personal passion and commitment to delivering sustainability and climate change as well as your enthusiasm and proactivity for getting involved in a broad range of projects. You are also required to have good numeracy, data and communication skills and be a team player who is keen to learn and continuously improve your knowledge of sustainability.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The successful candidate will have a professional approach, excellent organisation, time management and communication skills and good attention to detail. The ability to learn the following skills is important: flexible working across multiple tasks; data analysis techniques; how to prioritise and re-prioritise tasks; project management.

An interest and understanding of the environment and climate change and the importance of carbon reduction will need to be evidenced.

You will have been educated to a minimum of GCSE level (A-Levels are desirable) and be confident with maths and the ability to learn to interpret and analyse data; have knowledge and experience of Microsoft programmes and the ability to learn to use various portals and new software.

There will be a requirement to travel between sites and/or to sometimes work out of any of the 4 acute Hospital Sites -- Heartlands, Solihull, Good Hope & Queen Elizabeth hospitals.

Qualifications

Essential

5 GCSEs 4 -9 (A* - C) GCSE inc English Language, Maths and Science (grade C or above) or equivalent 

Desirable

* A-Level (x2) or equivalent

* Environmental Qualification, level 3 or above

* Geography GCSE grade C or above

Experience

Essential

* Working in Teams to meeting deadlines

* Experience of communicating with a variety of audiences

* Basic understanding of environmental issues and sustainability

* Basic knowledge of data analysis

* Basic knowledge of NHS & UK Government commitments on carbon reduction and Net Zero

Desirable

* Sustainability / Environmental work experience or volunteering

* Working / work experience in hospital or with the general public

* Working in an office administration environment
