Job summary

Do you have an interest in Acute Medicine? Acute Medical wards 518 and 517 are looking for enthusiastic band 6 nurses to join the team.518 is an Acute Medical 36 bedded ward, whilst 517 is an Acute medical short stay 26 bedded ward. We plan, assess, treat and provide quality care to a group of patients with both general and complex medical conditions. These are fast paced wards to facilitate bed capacity and patient flow. We are a friendly multidisciplinary team who are looking for experienced, highly motivated nurses who can provide expert clinical leadership to our nursing team. The successful candidate must be committed to ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, compassionate, high quality care and have a strong ethos of service development and improvement for the benefit of patients and staff alike. They will have proven clinical, management, and must have the ability to communicate and support their colleagues, and our patients and their families/carers. We will empower you to have a strong sense of ownership for the ward and team members. You will be supported to develop your role by the band 6 development programme and other development opportunities. We will provide you with the guidance and support you need to fulfil your maximum potential. Main duties, tasks & skills required

As a sister/charge nurse you will act as a facilitator/ mentor /assessor / preceptor to nursing students, junior registered and unregistered staff whilst acting as a role model at all times.

The successful candidate will continuously monitor and ensure quality and safety to our patients and will be actively involved answering any concerns, complaints and completing investigation reports through incident reporting.

You will be flexible, enthusiastic, passionate about acute medicine and have a commitment to improving service delivery and able to sustain new ways of working and develop nursing practice.

You will support the development and implementation of audit, quality and risk management initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register 

Experience

Essential

Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff

Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD

Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment

Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration

Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff

Experience of mentoring undergraduate students

Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department

Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.
