Band 6 - Skull Base Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Skull Base Service at UHB is one of the fourth centres in the country with supra- regional and regional service provider. The Clinical nurse specialist will be an essential part of this service.

The successful candidate will work closely alongside and be supported by a dedicated team of clinicians (Including CNS, consultants and AHP). All staff are supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential through personal and professional development. The role is challenging and demanding at times. We are looking for a forward thinking, motivated and ambitious nurse, who must be able to work autonomously, manage own case load and undertake nurse led clinics.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing specialised group of patients, coordinating pathways and treatment plans for patients. The part of the role is to identify, facilitate educational/ training programs, undertake research and service development. The role requires excellent interpersonal- communication skills alongside prioritisation and team working. The ideal candidate will possess high clinical standards and the ability to work proactively within a busy multidisciplinary team. Clinical Nurse Specialist's role is crucial when supporting patients and carers on how to best manage their conditions.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Provide specialist nursing advice to a cohort of patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support within the services, being a point of contact for assessment, information and advice for the patient.

Under the direction of a more experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist the post holder will work towards achieving agreed competency's , skills and knowledge through work based practice , education and training to enable the provision of specialist nursing. Through agreed process's the post holder will work towards independent autonomous specialist nursing practice , where the post holder will assume responsibility for managing a caseload of patients within a speciality whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care , advice and support to patients , staff , families and carers.

The Clinical Nurse specialist will co-ordinate and facilitate treatment pathways in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team/ AHP.

In liaison with others support the development of staff caring for patients through support, formal education, practice development and role modelling.

As a Specialist Nurse the post holder will practice under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Team / Service Leader, working towards achieving agreed levels of competence, skills and knowledge to enable independent autonomous practice within their scope of clinical practice.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse with valid NMC

registration.

Evidence of post registration CPD / post

registration qualification in appropriate

area of speciality or professional

knowledge supplemented by specialist

experience and short courses to FHEQ

Level 6

Experience

Essential

Evidence and ability to revalidate as

required by the NMC.

Significant post registration experience,

with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and

knowledge for the associated area of

specialist practice.

Evidence of achievements and career

development in current post and of ongoing professional development/

competence.

Demonstrate specialist knowledge

underpinned by theory and CPD relevant

to speciality.

Experience and enthusiasm for

teaching/assessing and supervising others

in a clinical setting.

Experience of working in a multidisciplinary and cross agency work

environment.

Demonstrate understanding / experience

/ willingness to be a practice-based

supervisor / assessor as detailed in the

NMC.
