Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Dosimetrist (Clinical Technologist or Therapeutic Radiographer),with particular skills and interest in Treatment Planning and Mould Room duties. The post holder will participate largely in these areas but experience in Brachytherapy or Linac QA and Dosimetry would be beneficial.

The Radiotherapy Physics Service has 48 scientific and technical staff working to treat approximately 4500 patients per year on 6 linear accelerators, 2 TomoTherapy HD units, and a CyberKnife unit. The department has 2 wide-bore CT scanners, a dedicated HDR suite, and RayStation, TomoTherapy and CK planning systems.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will participate primarily within the Treatment Planning and Mould Room sections of the radiotherapy department, and should have experience in 3DCRT and IMRT planning techniques. UHB currently delivers IMRT to 80% of radical patients. 4DCT and SABR techniques are in routine use for all current clinical indications, and a well developed adaptive planning service is in place. Participation in these services, clinical trials and in technical developments across the department would be expected.

Due to the nature of the role the post holder will be expected to work flexibly as the service requires, including participation in an on-call weekend rota for emergency patients.

Qualifications

Essential

BSc (Hons) in Clinical Technology (Diploma) or equivalent, together with in-house formal training as per Clinical Technology syllabus 

Experience

Essential

Specialist knowledge and expertise, underpinned by theoretical knowledge gained through study beyond graduate level plus additional practical experience in the area of Radiotherapy Treatment Planning Dosimetry and Mould Room Technology

Radiotherapy Treatment Planning Dosimetry

Experience in the use of Treatment Planning Dosimetry systems to produce routine and non-standard treatment plans

Mould Room Competencies

Taking impressions, fitting masks, electron dose calculations, producing Pb masks and production of low melting point alloy shielding blocks

Radiation Oncology Knowledge of anatomy and more especially radiotherapy techniques

The post holder requires specialist knowledge of radiation Treatment Planning Dosimetry and Radiotherapy sufficient to critically evaluate problems associated with Treatment Planning Dosimetry
