Job summary

Following a highly successful pilot project underlining the positive impact of the expansion of the pharmacy service within the acute medicine wards, we are delighted to say that the Trust has provided investment in the Pharmacy departments on the Birmingham Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital sites, to allow us to create 10 new Clinical Support Pharmacist posts as well as a number of Clinical Pharmacy Technician posts which will be advertised separately.

As a result, we are seeking talented and motivated pharmacists to join the teams working across the Birmingham Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals sites of University Hospitals Birmingham

Main duties, tasks & skills required

We are looking for enthusiastic clinical pharmacists who are capable of working as part of a team and are flexible regarding working practices. You will be a motivated individual with good communication skills and a desire to use your knowledge, skills and experience to improve patient care and influence healthcare professionals in the best use of medicines

You will deliver a quality clinical pharmacy service with support and guidance from our friendly team. Working across all 2 sites (either Heartlands and Solihull, or Good Hope and Solihull) you will rotate every 3 months through a variety of the specialties including cardiology, stroke, elderly care, general surgery, T&O, stroke, care of the elderly, general medicine and cancer services, alternating with the extended service to the acute medicine wards.

There will be the opportunity to undertaken a clinical diploma and subsequently non-medical prescribing qualification.

You will join a team of clinical pharmacists who operate an on-call service from home and be provided with a laptop and all appropriate resources, including advisory support from a senior pharmacist when required.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

*Vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent)

*Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Experience

Essential

*Experience of working in pharmacy practice

*Previous participation in multi-disciplinary team

*Demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm for providing high quality pharmaceutical care

*Possesses knowledge of available resources to guide clinical decision making

Desirable

*Hospital pharmacy experience in clinical pharmacy services

*Possesses relevant clinical knowledge

*Knowledge of national initiatives and guidelines, e.g. NICE, NSF

*Possesses knowledge of available resources to answer Medicines Information queries

*Demonstrates good knowledge of hospital pharmacy and current issues
