Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit a number of Health Care Assistants to join our busy Sexual Health Clinics (Umbrella), based in several locations in Birmingham and Solihull. .

Umbrella delivers a wide range of sexual health services, for example, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, contraception, etc. Umbrella is a uniquely comprehensive partnership of local service providers including community pharmacists, general practitioners, third sector and other partners, NHS Trusts and Birmingham City Council Services.

We have a number of satellite clinics around Birmingham and Solihull which have a variety of opening hours and are as follows: Whittall Street Clinic and Boots Birmingham city center, Boots Solihull, Erdington, Hawthorn House, Northfield and Chelmsley Wood. Cross site working is part of the job requirement.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Successful candidates will be expected to undertake the following:

*Chaperoning all patients attending the service

*You will be expected to be a patient advocate

*Perform venepuncture (take bloods) and point of care tests

*Take samples to the laboratory when required

*Ensure clinical rooms are stocked up

*Ensure clinical and waiting rooms are clean and tidy

*Give negative results

All training will be provided to successful applicants.

Desirable

*Functional skills Level 2 English Language and Maths Qualification or GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English Language

*Care Certificate or evidence or Training & Development associated with Health Care Support Worker role

*Level 2/3 NVQ/ Diploma in Health

Experience

Essential

*Experience of working / participating as part of a team.

*Evidence of ability to work using own initiative and under minimal supervision (

*Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the role and tasks involved

*Can articulate the reasons for training/ standards of practice and behaviour and how these may be demonstrated / relate to patient care and safety

Desirable

*Minimum of 6 months experience in a care environment in the last 12 months 

Additional Criteria

Essential

*Good standard of spoken and written English

*Basic computer skills

*Good communication skills -- written and oral

*Good time keeping

*Ability to work with competing priorities

*Flexible approach to shift patterns and place of work this may include working in different practice settings in different locations dependent upon service need
