Job summary
The Department provides a specialist service to the following specialities at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The Maxillofacial Prosthetics department is based at the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, but provides a satellite service to Good Hope, Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals and Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The Department provides a specialist service to the following specialities at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The Maxillofacial Prosthetics department is based at the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, but provides a satellite service to Good Hope, Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals.
1. Maxillofacial Surgery (Including Major Trauma Centre)
2. Craniofacial Surgery (Supra Regional Unit)
3. Cleft Unit (Regional Unit)
4. ENT
5. Plastic Surgery and Burns (Regional Unit)
6. Neurosurgery (Regional Unit)
7. Breast Clinic
8. RCDM
9. Dermatology
10. Paediatric Microtia Service (Birmingham Children's Hospital)
The Department also has service level agreements in place for specialist Maxillofacial and Craniofacial work at Birmingham Children's Hospital-
* To participate in the delivery of a clinical, scientific service to patients undergoing Reconstructive procedures or Rehabilitation using implants, splints, and prostheses.
* To undertake the production of Maxillofacial Technical and Prosthetic devices.
* To contribute to research and development programmes in conjunction with university course.
* Support will be provided toward the MSc programme for the suitable candidate pre, and post qualification commitment will be required-discussed at interview or at informal visit.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential
* BSc in Technical Dentistry or equivalent
* Maintain state registration GDC
Desirable
* Associate Membership of the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists -- AIMPT.
Experience
Essential
* Maxillofacial prosthetic or Dental production environment - hospital or commercial laboratory based.
* Experience with CAD/CAM
Desirable
* Post graduate experience and knowledge of Maxillofacial associated specialties
Additional Criteria
Essential
* Spatial awareness, in three dimensions and familiarity of anatomical shape, dimension, position. Able to distinguish colour, shade, and hue.
* Knowledge of relevant materials science, use of bio-compatible materials, chemistry, rheology, and toxicology as applied to maxillofacial prosthetics.
* Must be able to organise own workload and problem solve to allow for service delivery.
* To be able to fit in with a busy environment.
Desirable
* COSHH, Health and Safety legislation and relevant maxillofacial laboratory best practice.
* Legislation covering data protection and patient confidentiality.
