Geriatric Medicine Consultants are required for the expansion of OPAL, FSDEC & FAU services at Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for highly motivated and skilled individuals to join a genuinely innovative frailty service at an early stage of development, giving you an opportunity to shape FSDEC, OPAL and FAU pathways from the outset.
This post sits at the centre of a whole system frailty pathway and aims to deliver early Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), reduce avoidable admissions, improve ED flow, shorten length of stay, and support safe discharge aligned to national acute frailty standards. Including:
*Delivering consultant-led frailty assessment and decision making for the Frailty SDEC operational from 08:00--20:00, 7 days per week, via a multi consultant rota (3.55 WTE).
*Working closely with the Frailty Navigator and OPAL team to provide early identification, triage and streaming at the hospital front door.
*Providing senior input to the Frailty Assessment Unit (FAU) for short stay (24--48 hour) geriatric assessment and stabilisation.
*Participating in the daily 11:00 North Locality Frailty MDT, involving community GPs, frailty nurses, and acute medical team to ensure safe and coordinated transitions of care.

The role represents an opportunity to shape a pioneering frailty model within one of the largest teaching Trusts in the UK.
*MRCP or equivalent. Entered on the GMC Register, CCST in geriatric and general internal medicine or equivalent within 6 months of interview.
*Higher Degree
*Eligible for inclusion on the GMC specialist register in geriatric medicine and general (acute) medicine or equivalent
*Initiatives demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to the medical care of older adults.
*Comprehensive clinical experience of geriatric and general (acute) medicine.
*A record of research and/or clinical audit interest relating to the acute care of older patients evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals or formal reports to health care organisations, OR
*A period of research leading to a higher degree & a continuing research interest in the field of geriatric medicine.
