We are seeking a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our established inpatient therapy team, and work closely with the Band 7 Physiotherapist to drive the service and its outcomes. You will manage a clinical caseload, completing assessment and therapy plans, whilst offering clinical supervision and support to your team.

We are a 24 bedded acute stroke unit, who also provide care for acute neurological outliers. We provide rehabilitation and care for our patients, and use assessment skills to identify and provide excellent post stroke intervention. The multidisciplinary stroke team at Good Hope Hospital is strong and supportive. The team aims to work in an integrated manner with their AHP colleagues and work very collaboratively with team members. We are held in high regard on the unit, allowing for accurate and effective assessment, treatment and discharge planning.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and stroke/neuro specialist occupational therapy. You will manage a clinical caseload, completing specialist assessments, treatment sessions and discharge planning. You will take on operational responsibilities for the running of the therapy team (alongside the Band 7 Physiotherapist) on a daily basis and lead on service development initiatives. You will offer clinical supervision and support to B6 and B5 therapists, and therapy assistants. You will be supported by an open and friendly, well established team and directly managed by an 8a Therapy Team Lead.

Good time management and complex discharge planning skills are essential for this post, as well as excellent organisational and problem solving skills. Effective interpersonal, leadership and management skills are also essential, alongside excellent clinical skill and handling. It is a fast paced environment, where knowledge of thorough and complex assessments is needed. We have a very strong MDT who aims to work together in a supportive environment to always put out patients first. Discharge is supported by our Early Supported Discharge Team, as well as bedded rehab units. We have strong links with these teams and throughout the stroke pathway. The department is a 7 day working service and this post would be included in that rota.

Qualifications

Essential

Current registration with Health and Care Professions Council , OT register.

Occupational Therapy degree qualification or equivalent, and significant NHS post graduate experience

Documented evidence of Continued

Professional Development of relevant specialist knowledge and skills

Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above.

Experience

Essential

Understanding of organisational structure of the NHS and Social Care.

An demonstrated ability to provide OT professional/clinical leadership

Significant experience of working in an acute hospital setting with neurological and stroke experience.

Experience of working within an acute OT team and participating in service development.

Experience of supporting and supervision of junior therapists, student occupational therapists and assistants.

A specialist knowledge across a range of occupational therapy practices, routine and non-routine, requiring relevant specialist knowledge in the field of stroke and neurology.

Understanding of current legislation and application to Occupational Therapy and setting.
