Job summary

The post holder will provide a comprehensive and efficient secretarial service to the Consultant(s) and their medical team. By personally assisting with the administrative workload, the Medical Secretary -- Supervisor will enable the Consultant(s) to optimise clinical commitment. It is essential that the post holder exercises initiative and judgement using acquired skills and knowledge, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers. They will be responsible for the day to day training and supervision of other medical secretaries/clerical support workers.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The Medical Secretary -- Supervisor will enable the Consultant(s) to optimise clinical commitment. It is essential that the post holder exercises initiative and judgement using acquired skills and knowledge, maintaining confidentiality at all times. The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day training and supervision of other medical secretaries/clerical support workers.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of 2 years medical secretarial experience, excellent touch-typing and audio typing skills, a good knowledge of medical terminology, a good working knowledge of the RTT pathway, experience with managing waiting lists, and someone who is a team player but has the initiative to complete their individual tasks in a timely manner. We would like the successful candidate to be pro-active, approachable, and supportive to both patient and colleagues, to have a conscientious approach to their work, and ability to demonstrate administrative experience and be able to meet the main duties of the role as identified in the job description.

You must possess excellent organisational skills and be experienced in dealing with confidential information.

Good General Education (eg. GCSE

English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4

* Business Administration NVQ level 3 or

equivalent experience in a clerical

* AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent
