Job summary

Following additional funding into the Pharmacy department we have three specialist pharmacists' posts in older people available. One post will be based on each of Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands and Good Hope hospital sites.

These are new roles which will work together to improve and expand the clinical service to older people. We are looking for three proactive and dynamic individuals with an appropriate level of knowledge and experience to join our expanding pharmacy team.

UHB is one of the largest Trust's in England and has a large older people population that needs specialist support at ward level. In this role you will support the provision of the clinical pharmacy service to older people services. This will include using your prescribing qualification (or undertaking this qualification) to support ward rounds, getting patients discharge ready and developing the service to expand further into supporting patients in clinics.

There will be a strong emphasis on supporting you in developing clinical leadership and mentoring skills to the next level. With the support of the Advanced Pharmacist team / Clinical operational and site leads, you will complete core directorate activities such as reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure.

The Trust has close links with local universities and you will be involved with supporting the undergraduate pharmacy teaching. You will also contribute to the delivery of formal and informal education and development.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

- Leads and delivers the day to day clinical pharmacy service to the older people services through a team approach across Heartlands hospital site.

- Acts as the lead for pharmacy service to older people services on the Heartlands hospital site.

- Alongside counterpart in older people services on other sites provide clinical support to the speciality.

- Interprets the needs of the specialty and negotiates a range of pharmacy services to meet them.

- Represents pharmacy to the specialty, and ensures pharmacy and medicines management are taken account of in the specialty's development plans and day-to-day operation.

- Plans and implements developments to the pharmacy service to the specialty.

- Also acts as a senior clinical pharmacist in various specialties.

- Represents pharmacy in relevant specialist networks, and in joint work with our locality Primary Care Trusts and other bodies at local or regional level.

- Line manages Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Trainee Pharmacists and Undergraduate Pharmacists seconded to the specialty for experience

- To take full part in clinical/dispensary rota and bank holidays duties.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

* Vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent)

* Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

* Has completed a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent advanced practice.

* To be willing to work towards a non-medical prescribing qualification

Desirable

* Has completed a non-medical prescribing course and registered as an NMP with the GPhC

* Working towards Level I Faculty Membership with the RPS

Experience

Essential

* Possesses relevant clinical knowledge in complex clinical pharmacy settings

* Previous participation in multi-disciplinary team

* Demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm for providing high quality pharmaceutical care

* Experience of teaching/presenting to other healthcare professionals/patients

* Commitment to own Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
