Full Time Post for Cardiology Wards and CCU

Heartlands and Good Hope Sites

University Hospitals Birmingham comprises of four sites, Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope. The Cardiology Directorate currently has a full time Band 6 position coverning the Heartlands and Good Hope Site.

The Directorate comprises of the following:

Ward 6 BH site, has a ten bedded CCU, 20 ward beds, two cath labs and two day case units. This allows us to provide Primary PCI 24/7 and the NSTEMI service.

Ward 9 BH site, is a 34 bedded cardiology ward which cares for patients with a varied range of cardiology conditions, and six direct access trollies for assessment of cardiology patients from the front door services.

Ward 23 GH site, has a 6 bedded CCU and 22 ward beds, which cares for patients with a varied range of cardiology conditions. A cath lab and day case unit. This site provides the device service, implanting pacemakers and complex devices for both elective and emergency patients

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Bring your enthusiasm, passion and experience for level 1 & 2 nursing care to our directorate. The successful candidate will be required to provide ward based education to the nursing staff, educate and support staff to enable them to achieve their local cardiology and Trust competencies, as well as the use of cardiology equipment, such as CPAP/IABP/Temp wire etc, to be able to safely deliver care for Level 2 patients in CCU. You will be required to support and work with the nursing teams on the cardiology wards on both the Heartlands and Good Hope sites. There will also be a requirement to work some clinical shifts on the cardiology wards/cath labs to support the delivery of patient care and to maintain your skills.

Applicants should have:

*A proven track record of clinical and professional experience.

*Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills

*A teaching and assessing qualification.

*Minimum of 2 years current CCU/HDU experience at Senior Band 5 or above.

*You must have a postgraduate Cardiac Care qualification or equivalent and either current ALS provider certificate or with the ability to complete within 6 months of commencing post.

*You must be able to demonstrate clinical assessment and ECG interpretation skills and significant clinical cardiology knowledge and level of competence so you are able to teach and support nursing staff.
