Return to Practice: Operating Department Practitioners (Honorary Contracts)

We understand that you may have paused your career. Whatever the reason for this, if you are now ready to come back, we are keen to support you with placement opportunities within Theatres at UHB.

If you are returning to practice, you need to update your knowledge and skills as follows.

0 to 2 years out of practice no requirements

2 to 5 years out of practice 30 days of updating

5 or more years out of practice 60 days of updating

In the days requirements above, we consider 1 day to be equivalent to 7.5 hours

We can offer you a range of flexible clinical placements, enabling you to complete the required practice hours within our Theatres.

These placements will be unpaid with a variety of hours and locations available. We have many areas that can support your return to practise hours with a view to the provisional offer of a Band 5 position once you have HCPC registration.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

We are looking for dynamic, highly motivated applicants to work in Theatre on any of our four sites: Good Hope Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Solihull Hospital. We cover many specialities including Obs & Gynae, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Interventional Radiology, Thoracic, Cardiac, Liver, Neuro, Plastics, Burns, Hands, General, Urology, Renal, Maxillofacial, ENT, Vascular, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, Day case surgery and Emergency. All we ask for is that you provide the very best care to our patients and work with our teams to ensure patient quality and safe care is delivered.
