Band 4 Maintenance Craftsperson

Job summary

Perform unsupervised work including activities that may be demanding and/or non-routine

Work under own initiative in order to undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements, and capital work across the trust as directed, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.

To undertake training for new practices, procedures and equipment.

To undertake on-call duties if required as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergencies occurring outside normal hours are attended to.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

To undertake all work activities as requested by the Mechanical Supervisor/Estates Officer.

To work in accordance with Trust safety rules and procedures at all times.

To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.

To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance schemes.

To actively participate in the operation of facilities labour control scheme, by completion of all paperwork and reports as required by the scheme.

Carry out all work on equipment as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH Regulations, Building and Construction Regulations and the Trust's Safety Policy.

To carry out engineering surveys and compile data, as and when instructed by line managers.

To work overtime to carry out repairs/maintenance not possible during normal hours

Qualifications

Essential

Basic education to GCSE/'O' Level in Maths

and English or post-Secondary Education

training in a relevant field (E)

City & Guilds of London Institute Certificate in,

Either,

Course 205 in Mechanical Engineering

Maintenance Part 2 (205-3). (E)

Or,

Course 596 in Plumbing Advanced Craft

Certificate (596-2) in Both - Sanitary Plumbing

Plus, Installation and Maintenance of

DomesticHeating Systems and Appliances. (E)

Or,

Course 596 Plumbing Craft Certificate (596-1)

Plus course 599 Construction Service Welding

Advanced Craft (599-2). (E)

Or,

An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level

3 in a relevant Mechanical Engineering or

Building Services Engineering discipline. (E)

Or,

BTEC/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or

Building Services Engineering. (E)

Experience

Essential

Completion of a registered apprenticeship or

structured training program in Mechanical

Engineering for a minimum of 3 years (E)

Plus

At least 2 years post training, site experience

having demonstrated high versatility and

flexibility. (E)

Previous experience of working in an acute Hospital

environment or similar demanding role.(D)

Background in Mechanical Engineering,

equipment or Building services installation,

alteration, maintenance or fault finding. (E)

Reasonably clear and effective in verbal and

written communications. (E)

Capable working to deadlines.(E)
