Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly specialised clinical environment and facilitate the provision of cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic services for one of the country's largest NHS Foundation Trusts. We are searching for a Technologist with considerable experience at a senior level, who is keen to progress and develop into the more managerial role of Deputy Chief Technologist. The post holder will be responsible for working within our friendly team of clinical scientists, clinical technologists, radiographers, practitioners, trainees, imaging assistants, radiologists, nurses, radiopharmacy specialists, and clerical staff to continue provision of a world class service to our patients.

UHB NHSFT Nuclear Medicine provides a comprehensive diagnostic imaging, non-imaging and therapy service across the Trust as well as staffing and managing the PET service and a satellite department at Birmingham Children's Hospital providing a dedicated paediatric service. We have an extensive range of state of the art imaging equipment and an on-site Radiopharmacy producing isotopes for both NM and PET.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management of services run at Heartlands (HH), Good Hope (GH) and Birmingham Children's Hospitals (BCH) overseeing and managing a number of clinical staff at these sites. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and be familiar with aspects of managing staff. With support from the Chief Technologist and managerial team, you will ensure there is consistent and standardized service delivery across the larger Trust. As well as responsibility for the organisation of routine work (ensuring KPIs are met) and future workloads you will lead departmental projects (including equipment replacement), act as a RPS for sites and represent the services at Radiation Protection meetings. You will be actively involved in recruitment and selection processes and will lead, organise and deliver material to meet the training needs of the department, assessing theoretical and practical competences across all the sites. You will deputise for the Chief Technologist at Divisional Level when required. The successful applicant will be actively involved with the dispensing and administration of radioactive materials; acquisition of images, analysis and calculation of results and disposal of radioactive waste material when needed.

BSc Hons Clinical Technology or

equivalent

* Knowledge and experience equivalent to

MSc level
