We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist to join Point of Care Team at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Birmingham, one of the largest teaching hospitals in England comprising 4 main hospital sites: Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to work across all sites. This post is on a 12 -month fixed -term contract working 37.5 hours per week.
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered Senior Biomedical Scientist, with a relevant master's degree or recognised equivalent. The candidate is expected to have a sound theoretical and practical knowledge in POCT with the minimum experience of 3 years working in the UK laboratories.
This busy department delivers POCT services in all clinical areas in the Trust and nearby community centres. Candidate is expected to support the expanding POCT service managing several different POCT devices. All of which need to be developed to support the Governance requirements of a safe and quality led service.
POCT department delivers a dynamic service that actively promotes innovation and development, working towards UKAS accreditation. The post holder will be expected to work both alone and as part of a team, all working towards a common goal.
It is anticipated that the suitable candidate will have knowledge and understanding of Point of Care Testing and how this works within the NHS environment.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and wide variety of POCT devices in clinical area across all four sites. This will also include offering specialist advice to staff and service users; first line staff management including rostering, delivering training, development and performance management and representation at relevant cross-site meetings.
You will be expected to work collaboratively with the service management team, associate practitioners and other senior biomedical scientists in POCT. You will be expected to manage devices, perform appraisals and other HR/workforce duties and you should therefore have good communication and interpersonal skills.
They must have knowledge of all aspects of health and safety associated with laboratory procedures and will have a keen eye for detail and a desire to expand and develop the service.
You will be committed to providing high standard of service to our patients and have an enthusiasm for staff training and laboratory quality. You should have good understanding of legislation, regulation and the maintenance of compliance with ISO 15189:2012.
Successful candidate will also be expected to support breath test clinics manged by POCT.
There will be a requirement to work flexibly across the sites.

*State registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
*MSc, Equivalent academic achievement ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) OR Equivalent Level 7 Post Graduate Certification or Diploma
*Qualification in Delivering Training.
*Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HPC guidelines.
*Post registration specialty training in accordance with Institute of Biomedical
Sciences IBMS guidelines.
*Attended formal management course.
* Good awareness of current issues within Pathology locally and nationally.
*On-going completion of a portfolio demonstrating continuing competence in area of expertise and professional development.
*Discipline specific proficiency for HCPC registration
*Significant post registration experience in a specific laboratory discipline

A specialised knowledge of:

*Laboratory accreditation, relevant ISO and European standards
*Fault finding and trouble shooting.

*HCPC and IBMS professional standards, ethics and proficiencies.
Biomedical Science theory and practice (Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cellular Pathology and Molecular Pathology).
*Evidence of supervisory role or experience
*Understanding of accreditation within labs (e.g. ISO 15189, MHRA)
*Evidence of HR and Personnel experience
*Reliable.
*Punctual.
*Able to participate in Duty Manager Rota for out of hours service as required.
